I apologize for not posting. It's been a little crazy around here the last week. My husband learned he's going away for about 3 weeks (he's leaving today) so we've been doing stuff with the kids. We also learned there's a good chance the company he's working for may want him to move up to supervisor much sooner that we thought so we may have a very large pay increase coming our way and a move to the next province over.
It's just insane. For almost all of our married life we've been firmly in low income territory. There were even a few years where we hovered above the poverty line. Now his salary will very likely double in a year and there's a possibility it may actually triple.
It turns out that people in trades are hard to find. If you do find them they're very often fresh out of school. My dear husband had no idea but his combination of an electronic technician degree (despite it being years old and never used) and years of management experience is gold to certain industries right.
So we're all in a bit of a haze in my house these days.

Great news! Happy to hear of it!!
Lots of changes for you guys! That's awesome about the supervisor position and pay raise - believe me, I know all about being low income; that's where we've been for years. With Blair's new job, that's changing a bit - though ours is temporary and mainly to get us out of the hole we've fallen farther and farther in over the years here.
Next province over? Not mine by any chance? LOL
Did you guys get the storm we got last night? It's been crazy for storms here this year! Seems like we're making up for the last few lousy winters LOL
Thanks you two! Although I really hope he finds out where and what he's going to be doing sometime soon. I've been feeling unsettled and restless since summer now...Happy that Shannon has a job he really likes and that we'll finally be making more money but at the same time it's a huge change for us and we don't know where he's going to end up.
I've had everything on hold, my course, my drawing...I think maybe now that it's because this past 6 months or so has been so uncertain.
Molytail - Moncton, New Brunswick. So not PEI but a little closer to it!
Oh, and the storm...Yup. Only about five cm of snow overnight though. However it's still coming down today and it's blowing snow all over AND today Shannon is driving to Northern New Brunswick. He's got orders to call e everytime he stops for food or fuel. :)
yeah it's messy here today still - public schools across the island are closed and a lot of other places had delayed openings and stuff....
I hope he has a safe drive! I'd have given the same orders LOL
Moncton isn't far at all! :-)
Sounds like wonderful news! :)
Hey, I like your new blog too. Nice changes.
Security word is UBEGN. Appropriate.
Wonderful Monday morning news! Congratulations!
Congratulations!
The situation with the trades here out west is the same -- folks with the skills and experience are in very high demand. Though I suspect the cost of living is much better in NB than Alberta!
I think it might even be a bit better than here in Nova Scotia, at least the real estate seems to be. I'm a little surprised at what can be had in Moncton or the surrounding area for $100,000 or even less.
All this is scary though. We've been comfortable with our income in the last couple of years and now I see the income going up and I keep getting visions of our debt going up. I'm getting tighter on the budget now than I have been in years even though we're in the strange position of having a good bit of money left over when all the expenses are accounted for.
Oh boy. Can't make a woman happy.
So long as your budget for food/entertainment/fun stuff stays the same, you should be good. I know for me, it's difficult to resist the urge to buy more stuff and dig a deeper hole the second we get money because - holy crap I've had to live without XYZ for so long, I deserve it! But easier if you think of it as something that hasn't actually happened yet. We're not *actually* in a better financial position yet, until these bills are paid off.
Awesome news, though! I'm sure you'll find some way to make it work out.
Wow! That is awesome and I hope that all comes together. Congratulations!
Great news :o) Xxx
